Colorful Centerpiece ideas from your Portland Wedding Florist

Bold colors are always good to make a statement, especially in your centerpieces.  Color your vases to create a wow factor on a plain white table cloth or wooden table.  The best part about creating vases like these, is that you can use them later in your house, or give them away as favors after the wedding!

Elegant Southern Inspiration from Elizabeth Anne Designs ~ Portland Wedding Florist

Elegant Southern Inspiration

Oh how I dream to live in the South. The food, the warmer weather, the GORGEOUS moss-draped trees! Today’s inspirational shoot takes place under some of those gorgeous trees at the lovely Reynolds Mansion on Sapelo Island, Georgia. Only accessible by ferry and completely off the beaten path this mansion is steeped in rich Southern charm that is reflected in this beautiful shoot by Brooke Roberts Photography. The Flower Basket did an incredible job with the florals. The mix of ivy with the hydrangea and roses is classic, elegant, and completely romantic. My favorite floral detail is the gorgeous chandelier wrapped in ivy and white blooms. So pretty and so envious of all the Southern brides out there!

Hiring a Wedding Coordinator – Portland Wedding Coordinators

The Pros of Hiring a Coordinator

A coordinator is a very essential component to any wedding planning process. Coordinators are experienced in negotiating and have relationships with all the vendors needed for an event.  They can save you lots of time, stress and money.  They are aware of discounts that are only available to them because of their relationships with the vendors they know and work with repeatedly.  They also will know the things you should look for when selecting a vendor and which vendors to stay away from.

Most brides work every day and have other responsibilities. The average wedding can take more than two hundred fifty hours just to plan.  It is very overwhelming to keep up with all of the details of planning a wedding and one mistake can be very costly.  It may be hard to compare all the options, the services and contracts.  I encounter many brides that pick a venue before they come to me only to find that they have overlooked some important details that is going to have a big impact on their budget.

A coordinator is not hired to make decisions for the bride.  Our job is to lead the bride in the direction of the best possible resources and advise her along the way.  We point out potential problems, offering viable ideas and solutions, which is imperative.  Knowledge is power.  We will help you organize a dream wedding and keep the budget intact by suggesting ways to get the most bang for your buck!

Things to Consider When Hiring a Wedding Coordinator

When hiring a coordinator, ask questions, both of yourself and the prospective coordinator. Here are some questions to guide your decision making:

  • How comfortable do you feel with this person?  Trust is very important in any relationship. You should feel completely comfortable and feel like she is listening to what your ideas are and understands them.
  • It is important to find out how long the coordinator has been in business.
  • What types of packages are offered?  What are the rates?  Is there a payment plans?  Review the contract before signing and ask questions.
  • Does she have an assistant that will help with your wedding?
  • Does she offer other services?
  • Does she stay for the entire event?  How many hours are included in the fee?
  • Will she be at rehearsal?  How much time does she allow for rehearsal?
  • Does she have a backup plan if she is not able to attend your event?

As far as fees are concerned, coordinator fees can vary.  They can charge a flat rate or a percentage of your budget.  Stay clear of coordinators who take kickbacks from other vendors.  A coordinator should always have their client’s interest first and not the vendors she is affiliated with.

Get the Most Out of Your Special Day!

Now, you can be adamant about doing this yourself or have a family member do it and that’s fine.  But please let me share some of the possible scenarios.  First of all, it’s your wedding day!   Do you really want to take the chance of there being a problem that you or your family member may not be equipped to handle?  Also, weddings are a lot of work.  Do you think you will want to work yourself to exhaustion?  And how many places can you be at one time?  What happens if the DJ doesn’t show up or the photographer happens to disappear right when you’re supposed to go down the aisle?  Who is going to make sure everything is going as planned at the reception location while you are getting married at the church? And remember, the person that will be available to you at the venue is NOT a wedding coordinator, they are venue facilitators.  They will make sure you have the correct number of tables and chair and the correct linens and that’s about it.

A professional coordinator has the training and experience to do the ground work, the leg work, and the grunt work, making sure it all comes together.  Meanwhile, you can relax and enjoy your day.  Also, professional vendors appreciate a good coordinator on-site at a wedding.  It helps things flow easier and they all speak the same language.

Wedding Trends for 2012 Part II ~ Portland Wedding Florist

Wedding Trends 2012 – Part II

I’m wrapping up 2011 showcasing the hottest wedding trends for 2012. Do you want to join me on this swoon-worthy adventure? Of course you do. Then grab a third cup of coffee, sit back and enjoy part 2 of Wedding Trends 2012. And please don’t fail to visit Part 1, it has a bunch of pretty wedding ideas to steal for your upcoming 2012 nuptials.
CARNATIONS. I never would have thought that carnations could look so lavish. I know that Carnations have had a bad reputation over the years, but I am a huge fan.  They come in a million different colors, will hold up beautifully for your whole day and they have a light sweet fragrancy that I just love.  Believe me, carnations are the new sensation!
RIBBON. Ribbon has always play a major role on weddings. But nowadays ribbon is more popular than ever. With so many traditional forms and the up-coming chic new ways to incorporate ribbon into ceremonies and receptions, ribbon details will be a super hot wedding element this year.
OMBRE. Ombre literally means “shaded” in French. It usually involves a multicolored stripe, with colors graduating from light to dark. Since the beginning of 2011, this trend has lately gained a new popularity in the wedding industry and will continue to be super trendy this year.
NON-WHITE WEDDING DRESSES. Until recently, wearing a non-white wedding dress was just for very audacious brides. We have Reese Witherspoon to thank for the rise of wedding gowns in blush. Since Witherspoon, a symbol of classic, give her approval to the trend wearing this soft shade of pink on her wedding-day, blush has made its official debut as an acceptable -not quirky- bridal gown color. But, besides blush, many designers are using colors like light gold, nudes, champagne, and even mint, black and grey, for their 2012 collections.

COOKIES AND MILK. Milk and cookies are uber hot at weddings right now. And I predict that their popularity will only increase during the next year.

PEONIES. Who doesn’t love peonies? They are so romantic and pretty! In all their fluffiness and colorful array, peonies certainly won the affection of brides as one of the favorites wedding flowers on 2011 and will be even more famous during 2012.

ORANGE. Expect to see a lot of orange all over the wedding blogs and magazines, since Pantone announced the color of the year for 2012: Tangerine Tango! Over the past year, orange has grown in popularity and acceptance among brides and designers alike. A provocative attention-getter, Tangerine Tango is especially appealing in bouquets and decor.

If you’re an uber-trendy Bride, you can’t fail to feature Tangerine Tango on your upcoming 2012 wedding. Flowers, bridesmaid dresses and shoes on this orange shade would be easy to find next year.

Wedding Trends for 2012 ~ Portland Wedding Florist

 Wedding Trends 2012 – Part 1

Happy Wedding Wednesday! Starting today, I’m looking back at some of my favorites from the past year – love this time of year! So fun to remember all the amazing wedding prettiness I’ve share this year, so I’m going to look back at many of them once more this week. Today it’s all about the Wedding Trends of 2011. I predict that all of them will be very hot in 2012, as well. So keep your eyes open!
SEQUINS. This little shiny wonders have been out of style for so long that they actually feel new and exciting. The cool thing about the sequin trend is that you get a little bit of glitter and a burst of color all in one.

WEDDING CAKES. Lace Cakes are having a moment and I couldn’t be more thrilled. These pretty confections are romantic, elegant and can give a beautiful touch of vintage charm to your wedding day.

MISMATCHED BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES. For the last few years, mismatch bridesmaid dresses has been one of the hottest trends in weddings. Allowing your bridesmaids to choose their dresses according to their budget, taste and type of body is a fabulous idea that will continue to be very popular in 2012.

BURLAP. Incorporating this material into your wedding is totally trouble-free– its all about using little touches here and there. Basically a little rustic goes a long way! Burlap is not only very easy to DIY, but it’s also extremely affordable which will help it to maintain it’s popularity during 2012.

LACY WEDDING DRESSES. Thanks to the Royal Wedding, lace became the most popular feature for wedding dresses. And, I predict it will continue to be the brides’ number one choice for years to come. Delicate-looking yet strong, and rich with history, lace is sort of like the bride herself. It covers while revealing, and can add a touch of centuries-gone-by grace to your wedding ensemble.

OVER THE RAINBOW. Some people think that couples have to pick one or two colors and base their whole wedding off of that, but a new and fun wedding trend is to incorporate every color and have a rainbow-inspired wedding. From the bridesmaid dresses to the flowers, from the decor to the groomsmen’s ties, no longer are weddings bound by the traditional color combos.
BABY’S BREATH. Baby’s Breath is an insanely affordable and DIY friendly floral element that can make a big impact, particularly when used in large volumes. It’s delicate and pretty, and most importantly, can be purchased for mere pennies a bunch! All these characteristics made this tiny flower wedding-famous during 2011, but its popularity will continue to evolve during 2012.
NON-TRADITIONAL WEDDING FOOD. Many brides and grooms are stepping “outside the box.” They are personalizing their menus to express who they truly are. If you feel like rocking some of your favorite treats on the big day, 2012 will be the perfect year.
HANGING WEDDING DECOR. While a ceiling may not be the first thing in your wedding décor list, it presents a unique blank canvas for you to transform. Like the rest of your venue it can be customized to suit your wedding. Hanging decorations can add light or simply be that perfect addition to create the ambiance you are hoping for. In 2012 we will sure be talking about making a statement from floor to ceiling.
